Prioritizing the arts, safety, and accessibility.
We are currently hosting a 3rd season for 2022, taking place on May 26th, June 1st, June 9th, and June 16th. Repertoire is Mozart Symphony no. 40 and the world premiere of "The Moon (Reversed"), Will Davenport. We are very excited to take this step into the summer together, and please fill out the sign-up form to join us.
We are also hosting a brand new lecture series! This series is entirely written and presented by undergraduate college students, targeting high-school age students who would like to learn about music as a career, the college application process, how to write their own music, and more. Our History
This orchestra was created to play the Koussevitzky Double Bass concerto with River Makinney in the summer of 2020. During the COVID-19 shut down, all live music was put on hold, and the orchestra wanted to find a way to keep playing while maintaining safety. Coming together on the Makinney's front lawn, the group performed the concerto for a socially distanced audience. It was a success, and the outdoor concert showed how the arts prevail against these circumstances.
In the summer of 2021, the orchestra was renewed for a second season. The orchestra performed three movements of Dvorak Symphony No. 9, the "New World," on June 26th, 6:30 pm at the DuPage County Historical Museum. The orchestra had vaccination, masking, and social distancing requirements. It was during this time that the board and musicians realized the potential for the group as a completely free way to attend a summer orchestral program. Learning from the previous two seasons, SOCA has moved forward into 2022 with ambitious plans for a lecture series and concert.
